The St Bernard iPrism M3100 is an appliance that provides a reasonably wide range of web content filtering related features. Using access-control lists, the device allows real granularity in how and when the internet can be accessed. For example, by using access-control lists, various rule sets can be applied to different days of the week and specific times. The architecture of the appliance can be pass-through or proxy.

St. Bernard's iPrism 1200 is a 1U rack-mountable appliance. With clearly labelled network ports, it is very simple to connect to the network. St. Bernard also sells the iPrism 3000, which is aimed at larger organizations, with Gigabit Ethernet.

St Bernard Software's iPrism Model 3000 is as large and rugged as its canine namesake. Its 2U-height chassis has plenty of power available from its 3.20GHz Pentium 4 processor and 2GB RAM, so its bite is worse than its bark. Filtering up to 30Mbps of HTTP traffic, this is the big brother of the smaller iPrism 1200, reviewed previously.

Unique in this test, the iPrism is actually an appliance. Although these tend to be more expensive than software-only products, they usually have the advantage of a fairly solid configuration since they are factory-build.
