For: This is a solid product with a good feature set and good value for money
Against: Slightly diminished performance in finding wireless nodes and access points
Verdict: For its ease of use and good value we rate this Recommended
AirMagnets’ patent-pending WEP shielding provides additional protection for devices using WEP encryption. The product is capable of monitoring an organisation’s WLAN enterprise to boost performance and identify problems at the source. This solution also proactively alerts administrators to various types of performance problems such as overloaded channels, RF and other interference issues, as well as mismatched devices.

There is a quick summary of important events, scored and correlated according to the organisation’s policies. The latter, along with enforcement rules, are easily created and will keep your company compliant under various regulations. A policy can be created for the entire WLAN, specific users or devices and even an individual VLAN within a single device.

The product came to us preconfigured, so it really was plug and play. Setup was straightforward, but it did not see all of the access points and wireless nodes outside of our network. It did, however, pick out our intentional rogue quickly.

The documentation for AirMagnet Enterprise is good, especially from the administrator’s perspective and is a great help when it comes to deployment and configuration.

AirMagnet offers complete technical and online support for its products. The website has a lot of useful features, including a support knowledge base and FAQ section with easy-to-find contact information and email addresses for training and assistance. The vendor includes one year of software maintenance/ upgrades and hardware maintenance (if applicable) with the enterprise product.

Priced from £4,885, this is good value for money. We especially like the one-year bundled full support package.
