Microsoft customer Bill Drake said on the Windows Vista Community discussion group
website that a patched IE6 shut down “about 60 percent of the time” on his PC after showing a warning.
Using a blank homepage fixed the problem, but Drake called that workaround “not an acceptable solution.”
The browser did work properly after a system reboot, according to Drake.
Mark Miller, director of security response at Microsoft, said today that his company is investigating reports of a glitch in patch MS07-069, a cumulative update for IE released last Tuesday, and urged affected customers to contact support.
Microsoft last week released seven patches, including five affecting Windows Vista. Three of the patches are considered “critical” by the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant. Experts said the most pressing patch for IT professionals is the cumulative fix for IE.
