The managed security services company found that from May to September an average of 93 hacking attacks were directed at each of its utility clients a day, compared to 49 attacks per day between January and April.

“When researching these new statistics, we found that web browser threats represented a large number of the attacks attempted against our clients, particularly our utility customers,” said Wayne Haber, director of development at SecureWorks, in a statement.

SecureWorks urged utility providers to implement internet usage policies for their employees, regularly update security software and educate workers on the latest social engineering tactics used by attackers.

The US-based corporation has over 1,800 clients including 100 utility providers.
