The service monitors site traffic to spot surges and unusual patterns of activity that could be the result of a DDos attack, the firm said. It uses a threat management system (TMS) from Arbor Networks, which helped develop the service, to create a profile of expected traffic for the client website.

According to BT, once an attack is detected, the data is diverted through a filtering device to stop malicious traffic reaching the site.

Businesses that use the service will be able to view their protected networks via a web portal and check information relating to any attacks.

The bespoke service is available to UK customers now and cost depends on company size.
