The partnership allows AWA to offer similar technical support to residential and small company-users that it has supplied to corporate users since its inception.

"We have an existing corporate service network providing warranty management services to OEMs and large retailers, offering PC Tools products through our franchise network allows us to secure home users against malware and spyware," AWA Franchising general manager, Frank Tuohy, told IT News.

“PC Tools’ award-winning products are not only excellent products; they are also developed by an Australian-owned and operated organisation.”

AWA service staff members now carry PC Tools protection products which they can offer to users who are not protected, along with providing installation and advice.

PC Tools, which developed the core elements of its Spyware Doctor in 2002, views the partnership as a means to protect users from viruses, rather than a vehicle to more widely distribute its products.

“It’s not about getting more access to the public – we take a broader outlook on the matter. I believe AWA has the right vehicle to be successful in a very competitive marketplace, and PC Tools products are core tools for protection,” PC Tools vice president – sales, Australia and New Zealand, Rafal Potega, told ITnews.

“We work hard to supply quality products and services for all our customers. We think this partnership is a good example of two specialist organisations working together to provide a service that protects our customers.”
