An agreement to acquire Tumbleweed has been made between the Sopra Group, via its subsidiary Axway, and Tumbleweed Communications.

According to Stree Naidu, regional vice president APJ Tumbleweed, (pictured), the two firms will complement each other from a product perspective and channel outlook.

“We are now introducing the Axway brand to our channel partners over the coming weeks to identify opportunities and additional revenue streams for our Alliance Program partners,” said Naidu.

“Customers now have access to Axway’s Synchrony functionality and this will further extend our partner program capabilities. This is a logical value added move for our sales channel,” he added.

Naidu believes Axway customers will benefit from Tumbleweed’s policy-based secure email delivery and identity validation capabilities.

He said Tumbleweed customers will benefit from Axway’s Synchrony functionality to help organisations manage and control their business critical information.

“For our channel partners they have access to a merged entity that has solidified its strengths in a variety of categories,” added Naidu.

In 2009, the combined entity of Axway and Tumbleweed is expected to generate revenue of about EUR€230 million (AUS$396 million) with an operating margin between 12-15 percent.
