Secure Computing is acquiring Securify, a provider of identity-based monitoring solutions based in Cupertino, Calif., for US$15 million.

If Securify meets revenue conditions for the last quarter of this year and 2009, Secure Computing will play an additional US$5 million.

Company officials expect the purchase to enhance Secure Computing's firewall technology.

Securify's products monitor network traffic and alert organisations to out-of-policy behaviour in real time, and can initiate automated blocking in firewalls.

“Old-school firewalls inspect packets and associate ports with protocols and applications, but this is inadequate for the Web 2.0 world," Chris Christiansen, program vice president, security products and services at analyst firm IDC, said in a statement.

"With this acquisition, Secure Computing has the necessary capabilities for next-generation firewall technology that includes application inspection and user-aware access.

”The deal is expected to close later this year.
