Senator John Faulkner, Special Minister of State and Cabinet Secretary made the announcement on Wednesday.

Individuals who have shown outstanding commitment in the field of privacy and who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in privacy matters will be recognised in the inaugural awards program.

The awards will have four categories including; the Large Business Award – for businesses with 100+ employees; the Microsoft Small-medium Business Award – for businesses with less than 100 employees; the Community and NGO Award – for not-for-profit organisations, such as charities, NGOs, industry bodies, advocacy organisations, and social, cultural, sporting or community groups; and finally the Symantec Government Award – for any government agency at a local, state or national level.

A Grand Award will be presented to the most outstanding entrant.

Nomination deadline for the Awards and Medal is 9 July 2008. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner event on 27 August 2008.
