Google's Picasa image hosting service is fast-becoming the new tool of choice for spammers to elude e-mail filters. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is warning internet users of spam emails claiming to come from internet hit men. Spammers are stepping up their use of Shockwave Flash file redirects to avoid detection. Spammers are fans of the alphabet according to recent research – you’re going to start wishing your name was Zebedee. A hacker who compromised phone systems for the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) left the government with a US$12,000 phone bill.  

 

The first months of 2008 has seen spam levels rise with the economic situation and Olympics adding fuel to the fire. Smaller than my hand. More intelligent than a mini-computer. Able to detonate bombs from remote locations. Look! It’s a camera. It’s an electronic organiser. It’s the “cell phone”! Most spam is sent to non-existent addresses, but that can still generate annoying messages for genuine users. A look at two of the signing technologies PayPal plans to use to improve sent email authentication, which would allow ISPs to drop each email that isn't properly verified. With data becoming more mobile than ever, it is critical that companies have a pervasive security strategy across the corporate network.
